A Winter Capsule Closet

Usually in mid-January, North Carolinians like me are looking out for warmer temperatures on the horizon. However, this year, here and all across the country, we’re mentally preparing for for more cold. Thankfully, it’s a great time of year to stock up on winter staples like coats, layers, scarves and other accessories, and footwear, since many retailers are now reducing prices on winter collections.

I thought it’d be fun to share a winter wardrobe capsule with pieces that are timeless, neutral, and can be paired with just about anything. Quite a few of these items are on sale, like these fur-lined mules, this cashmere scarf under $100, this cozy parka, and this highly-rated pullover sweater in 8 colors. With a winter capsule like this, you’ll be savoring the cold rather than counting down the days until the flowers are blooming again!

All the items are listed below, from left to right and top to bottom in the collage, along with a bit of detail about why I love them.

camel coat / Slightly menswear inspired but still tailored to give a feminine look, this coat is incredibly classic and an easy throw-on for the office, dinner with friends, or a special outing.

black parka / My parka is what I reach for on colder days and especially when there’s wintry weather in the forecast. I love the faux fur lined hood in this one to keep your neck and ears warm.

taupe moto jacket / When the temperatures fluctuate (they inevitably do in North Carolina), this is a lifesaver for looking put together and avoiding a chill. The taupe color goes with just about anything.

dark skinny jeans / My absolute favorite skinny jeans at the moment. The wash is beautiful and the fit is so, so flattering. Just go read the reviews to see for yourself!

distressed black denim / I’m not a huge fan of an edgy look, but when you want a casual touch these are great. There’s just enough distressing to add some flare without looking frumpy. It’s a fine line!

one timeless sweater / The creamy color goes with black, brown, or a pop of color for fun. It makes me think of Cameron Diaz’s cozy wardrobe in the movie The Holiday!

black long-sleeve / Layer under a variety of cardigans or simple tuck into skinny jeans and wear under your camel coat for a put together look.

white long-sleeve / Another one great for layering.

fur-lined mules (also available without fur) / These are similar to the Gucci loafers but with a fur lining, which I love to provide some unique flare to a pretty popular shoe.

suede brown boot / I own these in the gray color and have gotten many compliments about them. For a heeled bootie, they are extremely comfortable. Be sure to use a suede protector after purchasing!

faux leather black boot / Chelsea boots are a closet staple, and I love the faux leather for rainy or snowy days.

cashmere scarf  / Simple and buttery soft. I think a scarf is often the element that makes a winter outfit come together. Comes in a variety of colors!

bag (turns into a backpack) /  I love that this turns into a backpack but also looks extremely cute as a handbag. The gold hardware is my favorite part.

pom beanie / I trust Ugg when it comes to cold-weather items. In the past, I’ve purchased beanies that don’t really keep me warm. This one is cute and sure to keep your ears and head toasty!

stacking rings / I gravitate toward rings for my everyday jewelry in the winter because they won’t get hidden beneath a turtleneck/thick sweater and are easy to remember to put on.
